Important Information

Please Read Before Registering for Classes (Below)

Classes are held in West Hills near Fallbrook and Saticoy. For the safety of our students, full address is given when you contact us personally.

Annual Registration Fees: $110.00 per family for registration (includes the first student), $30.00 for each additional student. Payment instructions will be provided in your registration confirmation email from Shawn Crane. If you are with iLead or Blue ridge Charter School, please contact Michelle Anderson regarding payment of your registration fee.

Financial Aid: Needs-based financial aid available. Please email Shawn Crane for details.

Student Supervision:
To ensure that we have adequate supervision for our students while on our campus, we ask each family to provide approximately 35–40 hours of student supervision over the course of the academic year. The exact number of hours is dependent on how many hours of classes your child attends. While we cannot guarantee that your supervision will perfectly coincide with your child’s class times, you are welcome to bring your children with you while you supervise. Alternative arrangements may be available if providing supervision would create a hardship. Email Shawn Crane to discuss possible alternatives.

Supplies:
The majority of our classes require that parents provide books and other materials. Details will be provided before classes begin. If you have questions about the details of any of our classes please contact the mentor listed.

Our Philosophy:
Our classes incorporate the principles and philosophy discussed in A Thomas Jefferson Education and Leadership Education: The Phases of Learning by Oliver DeMille. Many are based on the programs created by the Leadership Education Mentoring Institute (LEMI), and all our mentors are LEMI trained. There are discussion groups on these works and this philosophy throughout the year. Contact Shawn Crane for more information.

Special Note About Overscheduling:
Most of our classes have work assigned to be done outside of class. Each year we see students who take on more work than they can successfully accomplish which leads to high levels of stress negatively impacting students, parents, classmates, and mentors alike. We believe that the quality of a student’s work is more important than the quantity. Studying topics in depth makes the lessons more meaningful. Setting children up to succeed assists them in maintaining a love of learning. Over-scheduling destroys that. We trust that you know your child best so please take note of the “Outside Work Required” section for each of our classes to determine if your son or daughter will indeed have enough time to be successful in the class. Be sure to consider other studies done at home, outside classes, community college courses, and any music or athletic commitments. Some of our higher level scholar classes have a heavy course load. Please understand time estimates are our best guesses. If you know your child is a slower reader, finds writing laborious, or just really loves to research deeply please allow more time. If you are not sure if a class is right for your child please don’t hesitate to contact Shawn.Crane@YLPEducation.org or (818) 424-8574
